A major aspect of Kerala that has attracted large number of tourists, from across the world, to this state, is its beautiful and bewitching Backwaters. Backwaters of Kerala are a self-supporting Eco-system teeming with aquatic life. The Canals connect the villages together and are found very rarely anywhere else.
The best way to savor the beauty of these naturally formed water bodies is through the Houseboats. Houseboats, also known as Kettuvelloms, are the stitched boats, which are made with wooden planks joined and stitched together with coir (coconut Fiber) ropes and painted on the outside with cashew nut shell oil or fish. The Houseboat or Kettuvellam is held together using ropes and not a single nail is used. These Kettuvallams (Houseboats) were used, in earlier days, for transporting huge quantities of heavy materials from one place to other.
The Houseboat is equipped with all the facilities required for a comfortable stay. The houseboat has a living room, a sunbathing deck, and bedrooms with attached European style bath and a kitchen. The boat has solar lamps and fans. Without experiencing and enjoying a houseboat cruise, the Kerala Tour Packages remains incomplete. |
